a sampling:

According to the Puget Sound Regional Council, the region needs an additional $40 billion to $45 billion to fund all the projects in the long-range transportation plan extending to 2030.

Passage of the light rail expansion measure this month took a chunk out of that amount, but projects still remain underfunded by billions.

State Transportation Department spokesman Lloyd Brown said that early indicators point to an incoming federal contribution in the range of $250 million to $500 million.

But since the emphasis of the federal plan is on creating jobs, it's unlikely the new money will be used for the huge transportation projects in King County -- replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct and the 520 bridge.
