I will also add that with Rep. David Obey (D-WI) as chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Wisconsin will likely benefit disproportionately from a massive infrastructure project, as Obey will be able to steer more money to his district and state than any other member of the House, except perhaps chair of the transportation committee.

According to the Wispolitics Budget Blog, Gov. Jim Doyle has addressed infrastructure as a critical aspect of the state's development plans. Wisconsin, which now faces a $5.4 billion budget deficit, is asking the federal government for assistance, in hopes of avoiding massive cuts in state programs. However, Doyle has nevertheless declared that "deep cuts" will be necessary.

"Doyle said Obama has asked governors to come up with a list of projects in their respective states that are "ready to go, ... (to) get shovels in the ground almost immediately upon passage by Congress." He said he is in the process of devising that list, with the hope of "putting thousands upon thousands of people to work.'"
